East Bay Construction uses only high quality, durable materials that can withstand harsh marine conditions.  Please be aware that low cost materials will not last nearly as long as quality materials.

Piles:  In the marine construction industry, two sizes of piles are generally used.  Some companies use 6”-7” piles.  East Bay uses only 8”-10” piles.  You can really see the difference in the photo below.  8”-10” piles are much larger, and will last much longer.

Stringers and Headers:  Two sizes are generally used in the industry.  Some contractors use standard 2”x8” lumber that one would find in a home improvement center.  East Bay uses only true 2”x8”  rough cut lumber, treated for durability with a 2.5 CCA rating.  You can really see the difference in the photo below.  A true 2”x8” is serious wood for many years of service.

Bolts:  East Bay uses hot-dipped, galvanized 5/8” Timber bolts (or larger) with an Ogee washer. You won’t see one of these heavy bolts pull out.  Some contractors use a much smaller 1/2” hex head bolt with small flat washers.  Its easy to see from the photo below how a bolt from East Bay will last much longer in a marine environment.

Nails: East Bay uses hot dipped, galvanized 20D nails, and they are hand driven.  Some contractors use nail guns, which shoot a much smaller nail.  Again, you can really see the difference in the photo below.

Stringer & Header Detail:  In the photo below you can see the stringer (a true 2”x8”) attached to the larger 8”-10” pile with East Bay’s hefty 5/8” Timber bolt.  The header (also a true 2”x8”) sits on top of the stringer, and the deck boards (standard 2”x8”) on top of the header.  If you look closely you will see that stringers and headers are also hand nailed using 20D galvanized nails.

Boat Lift Hardware: We use boat lift hardware from Tide Tamers, Magnum Boat Lifts, and Davit Master.  Click here to get more information on the boat lift hardware we use.
